This blog is an interview with Jonathan Chizick, VP Sales and Business Development at Drippler about their app.

Drippler is a mobile discovery app that provides personalized tips and recommendations to mobile users, as well as opportunities for advertisers to reach this audience. 

THE INTERVIEW (Tuesday, September 22, 2015)

“Jonathan, it’s been quite some time since we worked on MarketingCamp Silicon Valley together.

I am intrigued by your new startup Drippler. As a fellow consultant, I know it takes a lot to give up your freedom and go full-time again.


Tell me what about Drippler convinced you they are one of the startups in Silicon Valley that will make it and be worth your time. Also, how does Drippler meet your personal sense of “purpose”?


Drippler  has a great product and a clear sense of purpose itself. Our founders have a vision for helping ordinary people get the most out of mobile technology, which is changing faster than most people can keep up with.

That’s a mission I believe in and have gotten behind my entire career. The best part is everyone at Drippler also believes in the mission and is working hard to make it a reality. That makes for an enduring company.


Who can benefit most from Drippler?


For the consumer, people like you and me, everyone with a smartphone or tablet can benefit, no matter your comfort-level with technology. I’m fairly tech savvy and I’m still amazed how many useful tips and recommendations I receive from Drippler.

For advertisers, it’s anyone looking for high value users for their mobile app. Drippler is a brand our users trust to spark discovery and provide recommendations on great apps for their mobile device.

We educate users about the app in a highly engaging way. So anyone who clicks on an ad is genuinely interested in that app. Given how we deliver our ads, it’s not surprising that our conversion rates for top performing apps regularly exceed 50% and can be as high as 75%.


Tell me more about the product. How is Drippler different and better than similar apps that are already out there. Or is it unique?


Drippler is a highly engaging tips and recommendation app that has a large and loyal following. Our users rely on us to fulfill their need for discovery when it comes to advice, tips and recommendations for their mobile devices. Each day we deliver this information in a news feed that users can scroll through at their leisure. Then, at the end of each day we’ll send you a push notification with a personalized recommendation on content we think you’ll like.

From a business perspective, we’re a native advertising platform for mobile app developers and publishers. What makes us unique is we have so many engaged users who are open to learning about new things that it allows us to deliver sponsored content in a seamless way rather than interrupting the user experience to deliver an ad. The value proposition of the whole Drippler platform lends itself well to driving app installs.

“So our users get something that will help improve their lives and our advertisers get high-value users for their apps. It’s a win-win for everybody.” 


If you can disclose this at this point, please tell me about your business model and strategy. Are you VC funded, looking for funding, planning to go IPO or be acquired? Bottom line, how does Drippler intend to make money.


The business model is that we’re making money by selling native ads. We charge advertisers on an install basis – so you only pay for the users you acquire. Clearly we’re not the only people out there doing this, but we think we have a pretty compelling value proposition.

And it’s a growing space that is showing no signs of slowing down. We add users and new advertisers to the platform every day. So we’re growing too and we’re happy about that.

In terms of funding, you can read about our Series A round on Techcrunch. We’re investing that money in our technology and in growing the team, particularly our team here in the Bay Area. Other than that, I  can’t really talk about any future funding plans or exit strategies.


Last question, what would be the biggest risk I’d take if I decided not to use Drippler?


For you, it will mean your mobile phone or tablet will be the same tomorrow as it is today. And that means you’ll be missing out on the full benefits your device can provide. Every day new mobile apps and tools are being launched that can make your life easier – yet sifting through them to find which ones actually work and which are right for you is time consuming and confusing. Using Drippler makes it easy.

For advertisers, they’ll be missing out on high value users that are the lifeblood of any mobile app. Our advertisers tell us that users they acquire through Drippler are more likely to perform the secondary actions that are a key indicator of long-term engagement. I don’t know any app that doesn’t need that.
